Feminine Names

Here is a glossary of many common masculine names that are found in Latin. This is not an exhaustive list, nor does it catalog the many possible spellings or variations that can be found in old records; however, it should help as you attempt to identify names you come across.

Most masculine Latin names are in the 2-declension. An example is the name,
Iācōbus. Since this name is in the 2-declension, it may have different forms according to the rules of Latin grammar, for example, Iācōbī or Iācōbum. While the majority of names are in the 2-declension, it is not uncommon to have masculine names in other declensions, even in the 1-declension, like the name Matthiās. If a name is in a declension other than the 2-declension, it is indicated by its number: (1). These tables provide the nominative form of common Latin names and their genitive ending.
