Feminine Names

Here is a glossary of many common feminine names that are found in Latin. This is not an exhaustive list, nor does it catalog the many possible spellings or variations that can be found in old records; however, it should help as you attempt to identify names you come across.

Most feminine Latin names are in the 1-declension. An example is the name, Maria. Other 1-declension forms it may take, based on how it is used in a sentence, are Mariae and Mariam. Some feminine names take 3-declension forms, like the name Agnes. If a name is in a declension other than the 1-declension, it is indicated by its number: (3). These tables provide the nominative form of common Latin names and their genitive ending.
